Where’s The Kroger At?

I have lived in Statesboro for almost 16 years and I have seen many changes in that time. I can remember when the bypass was only 2 lanes and where the other lanes are now were just grass. I also remember a time before Applebee’s, Longhorn, etc. Thankfully progress came to the ‘boro, and is still coming. In the past year Statesboro added Olive Garden to its list of restaurants, next week they add Cracker Barrel, and sometime after that Panera Bread. Statesboro has grown in terms other than food establishments, with Books-A-Million, Hobby Lobby and the addition to Hacker’s with its bowling alley and arcade.

If you were on a committee deciding what businesses (in specific or in general) to ask to come to town, what would it be and why?

If I was on the committee that decides what business was to be in Statesboro, I would definitely suggest a Kroger. First of all, this whole Wal-Mart relationship Statesboro has going on really grinds my gears. Yes, Wal-Mart has bargain prices, but everyone and their mom shops there and this can bring about a variety of people and a lot of them…in a bad way. Every other grocery store (Bi-lo and Harveys) is way too over priced which further forces people to go to the beloved Wal-Mart. Maybe it’s because I grew up down the street from a Kroger, but I think its necessary to add one to Statesboro. Kroger has always included bargain prices, a good atmosphere, great deli, the freshest flowers, and a nice and clean environment. Although Statesboro is a college town which is the cause for most of the hustle and bustle, we also eat a lot of food and we need somewhere besides Wal-Mart to do our grocery shopping.
